Orthopedic Surgery Residency Overview
Beginning in 2008, Orthopedic Surgery will be a five year program.  The first year (OGME-1) will consist of a broad clinical foundation with an emphasis on Orthopedic surgery and is linked to OGME-2 residency training and beyond.  Rotations in pediatric orthopedics and spine are provided at Children’s Hospital in New Orleans, with orthopedic trauma rotations in Tampa.

About applying to Orthopedic Surgery at GCH
This is a very competitive program.  Garden City Hospital typically receives over 100 applications each year for Orthopedic Surgery.  GCH takes up to three applicants per year into the program as OGME-1R residents.

Applications forwarded for review include scores for COMLEX 1 and 2.  There is no particular COMLEX score which is used as a cutoff, although scores do factor into decisions.  We do not release statistics on COMLEX scores of past applicants or current residents.

Most candidates that are invited for interviews have completed a rotation on-service and are felt to be a good fit with the residents and program.  Both 2-week or 4-week rotations are available; 2-week rotations are usually preferable during the application season due to the number of requests.  To inquire about a rotation, visit the rotation page under Information for Students.
