Residency Overview
During the four-year program in OBGYN, residents have progressive responsibility in managing obstetrical patients. Garden City Hospital averages approximately 800 births per year. Residents taking an active role in nearly all deliveries, as opposed to being limited to a smaller population of patients. Gynecologic surgery is integrated throughout all years in training.
Continuity clinic is coordinated in established practices under the supervision of staff physicians, allowing for ample experience across the spectrum of prenatal, postnatal and gynecologic care. Didactics are scheduled for Monday and Thursday mornings. In addition, residents attend Education Days through the Statewide Campus System-Michigan State University College of Osteopathic Medicine. Call during OGME-1 is taken with an attending or resident providing in-house backup and instruction. A tiered call system is incorporated into the program, with 8 call per month in OGME-1; 6 in OGME-2; 5 in OGME-3 and 4 in OGME-4.

Garden City Hospital is offering a $3000 primary care incentive bonus for residents in Family Medicine, Internal Medicine and OBGYN, payable after advancement to OGME-2.
Selection process
Applications will be accepted through ERAS. A rotation at GCH is helpful but not required. Interviews will be scheduled on designated interview days which include a luncheon with faculty and current residents.

Rainna Brazil, DO, FACOOG

Dr. Brazil is a graduate of Michigan State University College of Osteopathic Medicine. She completed residency training in OBGYN here at Garden City Hospital, where she served as Chief Resident during her senior year. Dr. Brazil is board certified by the AOBOG and is a Fellow of the American College of Osteopathic Obstetricians and Gynecologists.
